What are Biologics and why are they important? What differentiates our office from any others around the area?
Biologics are targeted therapies, composed from a variety of natural sources – human, animal, or microorganism – and may be produced by biotechnology methods and other technologies. These targeted therapies may be used to treat a variety of medical conditions for which no other treatments are available, or other therapies were tried and failed. Biologics can be administered as a subcutaneous injection, infusion or intravenous infusion.

Fasenra
What is Fasenra?
Fasenra subcutaneous injection therapy for patients 12 and older with severe eosinophilic asthma. Fasenra is not used to treat sudden breathing problems. Fasenra is given in one 30 mg subcutaneous injection once every 4 weeks for 3 doses, then every 8 weeks. Eosinophilic asthma is a rare type of asthma. The main treatment for asthma are inhaled corticosteroids which don’t have much of an effect on it, even in high doses. That means it’s harder to manage and you’re more likely to have asthma attacks. Usually, you need to take corticosteroid pills, which can have more side effects than an inhaler. Several biologics are approved to reduce the frequency of eosinophilic asthma attacks and Fasenra is one of them. Please see “Biologic Cost Sheet” for more information on the cost for your prescribed biologic medication.
