North Texas Allergy & Asthma Associates (NTxAAA) was founded by Dr. Harvey Black in 1927. Dr. Black spent many years studying the causes of allergies and over time developed a test for allergy sufferers. He was President of the American Society of Clinical Pathology and in 1945 coauthored the textbook "Practice of Allergy." Dr. Black truly was a pioneer in his time.
In 1950 Dr. James Holman joined the practice and took over after Dr. Black’s death. While building his allergy practice, Dr. Holman served as an associate professor of pharmacology at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and served as head of the Parkland Allergy Clinic from 1951 to 1980. Dr. Holman was eminently qualified for this role, for he had studied at Southwestern under Dr. Tinsley Harrison and at the University of Virginia. Dr. Holman has written many articles and papers on allergy and immunology, and was instrumental in the development of various novel therapeutic treatment options during that time.
Dr. Holman grew North Texas Allergy & Asthma Associates (at that time - under the name Holman Allergy Clinic) into one of the foremost allergy practices in the Southwest, with patients referred from all over the region. Dr. Holman was proud of the fact that he had patients that had been with him for over fifty years and that he was one of the first physician practices to open their doors at Texas Health Resources of Dallas
In 2004, Dr. Sandeep Gupta joined the practice after completing his Internal Medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and his Allergy/Immunology fellowship training at the Greater Los Angeles UCLA/VA Medical Center. He has been the Director at NTxAAA since 2005. He was instrumental in the creation and expansion of our Baylor Plano office. Throughout his training, Dr. Gupta has been awarded many honors and distinctions and has been named “D Best” in Collin County for the years 2012, 2013, and 2014. Dr. Gupta currently practices primarily at the Baylor Plano office but also still sees his existing patients at Texas Health Resources Dallas campus.
Dr. Nastaran Safdarian joined NTxAAA in 2011 after completing her fellowship at the University of Michigan. She brings a unique perspective to allergy care and has expertise in metal implant testing, contact dermatitis and Aspirin Desensitization. She has been instrumental in growth of the center over the last few years. She practices primarily at the Texas Health Resources of Dallas campus but comes to Baylor Plano one day a week.

We are honored to have had Dr. Naveen Sikka move from his active practice in Minnesota to join our office in 2013. Dr. Sikka brings a practical approach to allergy and in his first year has helped to build upon our success from his effortless dedication. His expertise includes urticaria, anaphylaxis, and angioedema diagnosis and treatment. He currently practices at both our Baylor Plano office and Texas Health Resources Dallas campus.
In 2014, Dr. Howard Crisp joined our practice after completing his service in the United States Air Force. Dr. Crisp brings his distinctive knowledge of vaccines and insect allergy to our center. He has also authored several journal articles and chapters during his career. He currently practices at the Baylor University Medical Center – Downtown Dallas office and also at the Texas Health Resources Dallas campus.
North Texas Allergy & Asthma Associates is one of the oldest active allergy practices today. Our very first location was at the Medical Arts building, located in downtown Dallas near Baylor Medical College. In 1974, Dr. Holman moved the clinic to one of its current locations at Texas Health Resources of Dallas. Recently, the center has gone through substantial renovation, expansion, and modernization. Currently we are proud providers of health care at three premier locations in North Texas: Texas Health Resources of Dallas Hospital, Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano, and Baylor University Medical Center – Downtown Dallas.
Our providers continue to carry forward the pioneering tradition of Drs. Holman and Black, meshing together new age technology and training with the proven techniques of the past. Our doctors are board certified allergists handling the whole gamut of our specialty from “bread and butter” allergies, asthma to anaphylaxis and immune issues. Together with our specialized staff we continue to carry forward the proud tradition of allergy care!
